Easy plans for simple birdhouses

Rustic birdhouses appeal to many birds. As a matter of fact, all birds that nest in hollows of trees will search out a rustic-style birdhouse that you have built. Because of the nature of this kind of birdhouse, it is probably the easiest one to build. You don’t need to sand, stain or paint one of these, the birds prefer to ‘rough it’ in a very simple nesting environment.

Using unfinished, untreated wood is the key to building one of these birdhouses. It needs to look as if it is just a part of the natural landscape and it will attract birds with its own basic charm.rustic birdhouse

Birds will move in, build a nest and raise a family, all while you just sit back and watch the process. You will see them bringing twigs and things into the birdhouse in order to construct the nest they need to lay their eggs. Each species of bird has a specific type of birdhouse they like and a particular way that they build their nests. Just let nature take its course and you will see a family moving in shortly after making the birdhouse available for them.

Wooden rustic birdhouses bring life to your backyard. They add character to the design of your landscape by bringing life to an otherwise quiet area. With the birds singing and chirping, you will find your backyard an inspirational area to just relax, read a book or write that letter you have been putting off.

Enjoy the project of building the birdhouse – and then enjoy seasons of birdwatching – all for the price of a few pieces of wood and a few hours of your time.

The rustic birdhouses require the least expertise and perfection of all birdhouse designs. No sanding, painting or anything – and the birds love them!

You’re right, they really like the rough wood – it allows them to be able to walk around on them. They like to bite at the rough edges too.

My grandpa and I built a house that looks just like the one in your picture over 20 years ago when I was 9. Thanks for a walk down memory lane.

It is so much fun to watch the birds as they go in and out of the birdhouse. With one on each side of the yard, you should have fun watching them come and go.
